Megane IV RS / Trophy/ Trophy-R - DESS Battery

Genuine Renault Sport Megane Mk4 RS/ Trophy / Trophy-R Lithium Lightweight Battery
 
Standard fit is a Dual Energy Storage System (DESS) battery that delivers increased performance for its size, while an optional DESS battery offers a weight saving solution.
 
Weight = approx 9 KG 
 
This is available in 3 seperate parts:
#1 - Lead Acid Battery Unit
#2 - Ultracapacitor Unit (NO LONGER AVAILABLE)
#3 - Battery Case & Lid (NO LONGER AVAILABLE)
 
If you need to replace the entire DESS battery. Renault is no longer supplying #2 - Ultracapacitor Unit or #3 - Battery Case & Lid due to the supplier no longer manufactures the part.
Therefore you must use the Renault L1 VRLA (lead acid) battery which replaces the entire DESS battery.
 
Note: If you choose to install the L1 VRLA battery, then your car will need to be taken for coding at Renault, where the technician will have to request Level 2 assistance to change the alternator management configuration file so that it can properly charge the L1 battery.
 
If you do not change the configuration, the car will be non-compliant.
In addition, the car will have excessive fuel consumption, and the stop/start function may not work or may not. This could also damage the battery and alternator.
 
Our advice to dealers and customers on how DESS works is:
- Replacing the small lead battery internally solves 99% of DESS problems + the connection braids
- It is necessary to update the up-to-date UPC/UCH computers in the Renault network (update + up-to-date configuration file)
- Customers should be advised to have a small home charger if possible in order to charge the car on days when the vehicle is not used. You must use a small maintenance charger of 4A maximum because the DESS works better on low currents.
